Today Is the Day . . .

In the immortal words of one of Dartmouth’s most illustrious cult members and a long time San Diego resident, “Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So . . . Get on your way!”
It’s here. It’s now. Apparently, my brain has decided that the soundtrack of the weekend is going to be Dr. Seuss, because the next words running through my brain are “Marvin K. Mooney will you please go now.”

At T-1: My nails are freshly pink and sparkly. I started the day with a quick Chino Hills State Park walk with a few of the “Girls Just Want to Hike. And Eat. And Drink” crew.

I loaded myself up with a morning Diet Coke because the adrenaline running through my veins didn’t have me acting enough “like a child given a Jolt Cola and bag of candy” (to steal from Paiger), and returned home to pace in front of Todd’s office door listening to see if it sounded like his conference call was ending and we could leave.
As an aside , in what alternate universe did I think I would be camping? The average male and the occasional female heads off to college with less luggage than I am bringing for 3 days. 35 pounds of luggage was not going to cut it even if the whole sleeping in a tent without a long hot shower and a comfy bed wasn't a barrier.
In my defense, given the forecast shows rain all weekend, I am prepared to be trekking through Death Valley in August and trapped on Everest as a storm rolls in. Todd will be bringing appropriate gear for all of these conditions to every pit stop so that I can carefully select precisely the correct pink garment for the current elements.

Arriving at the Mission Bay Hyatt is definitely a “pink bubble” preview - participants wearing every shade of pink run up to hug friends from previous walks, energetic employees sport pink logo’d uniforms, a spread of pink snacks greets new arrivals - even the lighting on the grounds is pink for the occasion.
After a dinner in Pacific Beach and a glass of wine at the hotel bar - surrounded by chattering teams - I’m tucked in and awaiting my 4:45 am alarm.

Let's hope I'm still smiling when I post next!
